I'm not a lawyer.
I'm a mom who ended up in family court and spent years looking for the thing I needed, and when I couldn't find it I built it myself.
What happened
My case probably looks a lot like yours. The agreement I'd already signed turned out to be full of language that could be read two ways, the retainers started high and kept climbing, my attorneys were good people who were also busy, and the only advice anyone ever gave me came down to two phrases, document everything and call your lawyer.
So I documented everything, for years, and it didn't get me anywhere. I had thousands of messages and receipts and screenshots, and I still couldn't sit down with someone and explain what had actually happened, including with myself at two in the morning. My attorneys were buried in what I was sending them because none of it was tied to anything, and every question I asked ended up costing me twice, once to explain the file and again to argue about it.
What I built
What finally helped wasn't documenting more, it was organizing everything around what the agreement actually required instead of around the calendar. Once I could see which obligation each piece belonged to, who did what, and what actually backed it up, the pile turned into something another person could pick up and follow in about ten minutes.
That's really all these tools are. Each one takes a job I had to work out the hard way and walks you through it in plain English, whether that's reading your parenting plan clause by clause, building a calendar out of the plan's own words, sorting out shared expenses in both directions, or taking three years of messages and turning them into a record with an index, a timeline, and an honest list of what's still missing.
What I'm hoping for
What I want for you is to be the most prepared person in the room, whether you've got a lawyer or you're doing this on your own. A plan that says what it means, communication that doesn't set off a fight, and a real understanding of the document you signed.
That's how families stop getting dragged back into court over the same six sentences, and it's how two parents end up working from the same page instead of two different ones. We can't control how anyone else behaves, but clear expectations and a record that holds together change what happens next, and my hope is that all of it lands on the kids a little less.
For a long time I thought a shield was something you held up once things got bad, and what I learned the hard way is that the one that actually helps gets built slowly and quietly, out of a plan that says what it means, a record that holds together, and knowing what counts before anyone asks you for it. It doesn't fight for you and it can't make anyone behave differently, but it keeps you standing when the ground keeps moving, and it lets you be the shield for your kids instead of spending everything on the next argument.
Every family deserves to live in peace, free from violence, coercive control and mental abuse, and not every family can buy their way to organized. If you're leaving an abusive relationship, you're usually walking into family court with less money, less time and less safety than anyone else in the room, and you're being told to document everything by people who don't have the hours to show you how. I know what those nights feel like, and that's who One Given is for.
My hope is that these tools do for other parents what building them did for me, which is teach skills nobody ever sat me down and explained, like reading a plan for what it actually says, keeping a record that makes sense to someone else, and using AI as a patient helper instead of one more thing to be overwhelmed by.
If you're a parent who needs a kit and can't afford one, you don't have to prove anything or tell me your story, you can just write to me through the Contact page and ask. And if you're an advocate, a legal aid office or an organization working with families leaving abuse, I'd love to get these into the hands of the families you serve at no cost to them, so tell me a little about your organization in the form below and we'll set it up. Kits are given as they're set aside and as I'm able to get them to people, so there may sometimes be a short wait.
What I hold myself to
I built this to take conflict out of the room, not to hand anyone new ways to start it. These are the commitments behind everything I make.
I give you frameworks, structure, and plain-English explanations. I don't interpret the law, advise on your case, or stand in for an attorney, and when you need real legal guidance I'll point you toward counsel and official sources.
I won't tell you how a judge will rule or promise you any result. These tools help you understand your own information and stay organized, and what happens after that was never mine to promise.
I won't teach anyone how to provoke, bait, mislead, or beat the other parent. What I'm really after is clarity and less conflict, and my hope is that a good record helps two people understand each other long before anyone needs it in a courtroom.
The tools are built to pull the real signal out of everything else, so you can answer what actually happened instead of reacting to whatever was said to get a rise out of you.
If you're being hurt or you're in danger, your safety matters more than any documentation strategy. Please reach out to local resources and emergency services, and I'll point you toward support organizations wherever I can.
I help you organize what you already have. I don't decide what matters, whether it's authentic, or whether any court will take it, and that part stays between you and your attorney.
Signals & Structure provides educational frameworks, organizational structure, and decision-support tools. It doesn't provide legal advice, doesn't interpret the law, and doesn't determine truth or guarantee any outcome.
Nothing here creates an attorney-client relationship. Always verify rules against official sources and consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction about your specific situation. If you're in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
