The two moments people dread when signing a divorce agreement

The first moment: before you sign

You're looking at a draft marital settlement agreement or parenting plan, and everyone keeps telling you it's standard. ALIGN walks through what each clause actually asks of you, where the money and time commitments sit, and which lines are vague enough that the two of you could read them differently, so you can go into signing understanding what's in front of you instead of hoping it's probably fine.

The second moment: after it's already stamped

This is the part most people miss, because a signed plan can still be misread, used as leverage, or slowly drift away from how your family is actually living. ALIGN reads the agreement you already have, points out the language that could be taken more than one way, and shows you places where your day-to-day routine might not match what the plan says. If something does need to change, many plans can be updated later by written agreement, and it's worth asking your attorney or your court's self-help center how that works where you live. Either way, you'll be able to see what's worth addressing before the next disagreement starts.

"It's already signed. Isn't it too late to matter?"

It isn't, and I think this is one of the things people most often get backwards. The stamp finishes the paperwork, but it doesn't finish the disagreements, and plenty of us sign plans we don't fully understand and then spend years and a lot of money arguing over what one vague sentence was supposed to mean.

Here's what a signed plan doesn't protect you from:

  • Language vague enough that you and your co-parent each read it differently and both believe you're right

  • Falling out of step with an order without realizing it

  • Ending up back in court over lines that could have been written more clearly

  • Not knowing that many plans can still be changed by written agreement

ALIGN is built for that "wait, what did I actually agree to?" moment, and for the moment a calm conversation starts sliding toward an argument. It helps you see whether what you're saying is backed by the words in your plan or mostly by your own reading of them, which is a really hard thing to see clearly when you're in the middle of it.

What you get

You upload a draft or signed settlement agreement or parenting plan, and ALIGN gives you back:

  • A plain-English walkthrough of what each section asks of you

  • Every vague or ambiguous line flagged before it has a chance to turn into a fight

  • The places where you're carrying money or time commitments you might not have noticed

  • A clear sense of whether a current disagreement is covered by your plan, open to interpretation, or not addressed at all

  • A calmer, better-prepared starting point for mediation

My hope is that it saves you some of the back-and-forth with an attorney, because you'll walk in already knowing where the real questions are.

Who it's for

ALIGN is built for parents with a family court agreement, and it's most helpful when there are children, shared time or finances involved and you'd rather understand your plan than just hope it holds up.

You'll probably get the most out of it if you have a draft or signed parenting plan or settlement agreement, if you're separating, negotiating or already co-parenting under an order, and if you want to head off conflict or make sense of one you're already in.

It probably isn't the right fit yet if you don't have a draft agreement to look at, or if there are no children involved and nothing to divide.

Why this isn't legal advice, and why that's okay

ALIGN doesn't tell you what the law says about your case or how a judge might rule. What it does is make your own plan readable, show you where the language is clear and where it's soft, and point you to where your state's official rules and forms live, so you stay in control and you're not working blind anymore.

$99 for one plan, read clause by clause

For most people that's less than a single hour with an attorney, and it can save a lot of the back-and-forth that comes from not fully understanding your own agreement.

Educational and organizational tool. Not legal advice and not a substitute for a licensed attorney.
